because there's been bisquing but no glazing this week! I had such good intentions to get a pile of glazing done and another firing today but alas, it was not to be. So instead of beady items I bring you...VEGGIES!! I realize that most people would not be as excited about this as I am today but just bear with me. A few weeks ago we watched Food Inc... now, if you do not want to totally change your eating habits I would strongly advise staying at least 10 feet away from the unopened DVD case/book, I don't think it can infiltrate your brain from that distance. However, I made the "mistake" of watching the video and promptly made the decision to go organic in as many ways possible...oh, including no more grocery store meat. So, we joined a CSA (community supported agriculture) group for fruit and veg and next week we're jumping on the meat CSA bandwagon. Today we picked up our first box of farm goodies...kale, broccolini, kumquats, tangelos, spinach, dates, red leaf lettuce, grapefruit, bacon avocados, apples, oranges, elephant garlic, spinach and some purply carrots. It's actually a fun challenge when you see what's in your box and you have to come up with ways to use all those items over the course of the week, even the items you've never heard of before!Moving on from veggies...I promised a pic of the newest addition to my flock...I picked him up in Palm Springs last weekend. I'm still working on a name for him :) While I was at it I figured I might as well show you some of the others in the family.
The raku quail... and the quackers! Now I must return to the kitchen to put the final layer on a pan of Nanaimo Bars in support of the Canadian Olympic Hockey team's game this afternoon.
I have a friend who purchases organically grown veggies from local growers. She was telling me of the stuff she gets, some things she's never heard of. She makes lots of soups in the winter with her stuff. It has to be better than all that chemically treated stuff you get in the stores.
ReplyDeleteGood on you for purchasing organic/local Food Inc changes your life. Love all of the birdie pics. But then you know, I am on something of a birdie binge.
ReplyDeleteNice bird collection! The veges look darn tasty too might I say, and did you say Nanimo bars - haven't had those for ages... yum..!
ReplyDeleteHow I wish we had something like that here. I tried to talk my farmer friend into doing this for extra money but it didn't work. We don't even have a farmer's market near by. And since I don't have a green thumb, nor the time to tend a vegetable garden, I'm stuck with grocery store produce....sigh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this. It's very inspiring! Thankfully, we have access to such organic food and you've encouraged me to explore that. Thank you also for your lovely comment and wishes. Spoke to the family in Chile today and they are well. – g
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Food Inc. Hmm. Sounds like something I should look into.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I am so proud of this necklace...I think am going to order another pendant so i can make me one too. LOL

The other upside of all the CSA goodies is that my veggie intake has increased dramatically! There are so many things to use in the box that I don't have the need to eat anything that isn't good for me :)
ReplyDeleteSasha & Max- the nanaimo bars were awesome!
Dana- It's in the running for an Oscar in the documentary category this year. Fantastic color combo on the necklace! Did you get the dragonfly pendant for your custom order yet?
Yes, I did. Thank you so very much! I'll send you the finished photos. As always, I hope I do it justice.
ReplyDeleteAs for this latest one, I have never bought mud jasper before, but I am in love with the earthy colors. It went so well with your pendant. It is by far my favorite creations. LOL I will be recreating one for myself, that's for sure. LOL
That's so great - I'm guessing I don't want to see what you watched! I have been thinking on this for a while too, and sounds like a good idea. Like your new birdies too!
