I just noticed that I now have reached 200 followers on my blog! How cool is that?! So in celebration I think we need a giveaway! I have a kiln load of bisque toasting away right now...some made to order items and a whole shwack of buttons. I'll let the winner choose from pendants, buttons or a pair of earrings...but no peeks of the choices until after my glaze firing is all done so you'll just have to trust me it's worth the time of a comment :)
So maybe for an entry to win you could help me out with a dilemma I have... do you prefer buttons to be be glazed on the back or left as smooth bare clay (or no preference at all)? In the past I have not glazed the back of my buttons... unlike most of my pendants and charms. I'll choose a random commenter next Saturday, the 16th for the giveaway.
I found this lovely fabric this week for a particular project I have in mind...how about more giving away of goodies? Want a chance to win one of the buttons from this firing? The first person to correctly guess what I have planned for this mix of fabrics will get one of the buttons.
Hope your weekend is wonderful!
All of your pieces are awesome Melissa! Congrat's on your 200th!! I really wouldn't have a preference of glaze or no glaze on the back, the front is sooo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think you are making a purse out of that gorgeous fabric!
I prefer my buttons completely glazed, (I think they wash better that way)but it really is a matter of preference.
ReplyDeletewould make a great purse I think! Or a summer dress.
ReplyDeleteI like buttons any which way!
At first I had no preference, but them I realize that if the buttons were glazed on the back, I could use them for things like charms or tiny pendants.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric and colors in it!
I like glaze on the back, I don't know why. Love the mix of fabric and I think you are making an apron.
ReplyDeleteI am going to be different and say pillow for what you are doing with the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI am unsure about the buttons because I like some of my things glazed all the way around but I am loving how Nancy leaves her pieces unglazed on the back so you can see and feel the porcelain. I am wanting someone to make a bead that is the white porcelain glazed just in clear so it is white but shiny. I don't work with the stuff so is that even possible? I am thinking bridal.

Hi Mellisa , I like them glazed, as they are more versatile for using as closers with a loop. I think some gorgeous cushions wold be great in that fabric - I love the stripe :) Vicki
ReplyDeleteSo far no one has the planned purpose for the fabric correct but great guesses all around... I did buy too much of the fabric though so all your ideas are great for the remnants!
ReplyDeleteI like my buttons glazed at the back too. Hmm, so the fabric (all gorgeous btw) isn't for a dress, purse, apron or cushions? They'd make for some beautiful summery curtains/drapes I think. Or tablecloth even. Table skirting? And I can just see them cut and sewn into lovely little pouches to hold your beads & jewelry.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to make another apron with the fabric?
ReplyDeleteI like buttons glazed on both sides, since I use them for jewelry, and sometimes they flip around when worn.
ReplyDeletei prefer glazed on both sides for a button. are you gonna make a blouse?
ReplyDeleteI stopped back to see if anyone had guessed what you are doing with the fabric. So it's not a purse or tote or bag, or apron, or pillows, or cushions. Could it be curtains or a crayon holder or a dress or I just saw a super cute pattern for a makeup case or a jewelry roll?
ReplyDeleteI am stumped and you are killing me because I love your things so I want to win bad! lol tehehe
ok, I'm back w/ a guess, a banner
ReplyDeleteI like buttons glazed on both sides...it just makes them look more "finished" to me. As for the fabric, I am going to guess and iPad case. :)
ReplyDeleteMelissa, thank you for the great give away. I prefer the buttons and beads glazed all the way around. I just love that smooth feel.
ReplyDeleteHmm...my guess for the fabric? Some sort of table runner or table cloth? Gosh, whatever you make with it will be gorgeous!
Congrats on your 200 followers! If I was to make a piece of jewelry with a button I think I would like it to be glazed on both sides.
ReplyDeleteI think you are making a apron!
*SQUEALS*
ReplyDeleteOk
I like them glazed on the back so if I use them for a clasp or something you get colors on both sides.
I have to go with an apron but I bet you are being tricky and making something else.....hmmm
Congrats on all the followers! : )
Hey Miss Mellisa! I think that I like my buttons glazed... that way when I used them in a design they are not scratchy against the skin.
ReplyDeleteI am going to guess a DOG PILLOW for that lovely pup of yours! ;-)
Enjoy the day!
Erin
Congrats on hitting 200! I think we each reached that goal on the same day :)
ReplyDeleteI'm betting that fabric will go to something photography related. A new neck strap? An insert for your uber-hip sling bag? Lens cozy? LOVE those colors!
I really have no preference on button glazing. Well yes I do, if I plan to use it in jewelry I like both sides glazed.
ReplyDeleteI think you are making a purse with your awesome fabric choices.
Hi Mellisa, I followed your tweet here. Congrats on 200 followers! I prefer my buttons glazed on the back.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you're making with your fabric, but I think they'd make a nice bag, a large one, maybe for knitting (of course, I think all large bags should hold knitting).
Melissa (I can't tell you how hard it was to type your name correctly, here! It seems so unnatural!)
Yay for 200 followers!
ReplyDeleteAs for the glazing - I like both sides to be glazed on items like pendants that will touch the skin. It just seems like they would feel better and/or look more professional.
With buttons, it probably doesn't matter as much from a finished piece perspective, but I personally prefer glazing on the back because I'm just crazy like that ;-)

Congratulations on your 200th follower...i'm so happy i found this entry in time to join the giveaway...
ReplyDeleteFor the glazing, i like both sides glazed (even for buttons which can actually be made into a pendant still).
